Eight arms = better stylist? Who knows.
This is the only thing I've been able to finish in the past two months to any respectable degree, working on it ten minutes at a time for the past month or so.
After a friend's wedding, working all the time, and many many hours of searching fruitlessly for a job that will allow me to support myself entirely(and not be in retail) I've got no energy for anything. Much self doubt is in play here, and I know it's kind of a lame excuse, but I just don't feel creative right now at all. I can't even make commissions look right. So if you're on my waiting list, I haven't forgotten you! I'm just having life difficulties right now. Very blah.
The octopus is ever so loosely based on a blue ringed octopus. They are quite nifty. <3

Everything about this picture is just so great. The way the mermaid's hair flows about in the ocean current in waves, and how her white hair contrasts her slightly darkened skintone, that big, wide, vaguely heart-shaped fin, the beautiful sea fans in the background and foreground, the kind of confused expressions of those fish surrounding them, and how the octopus's smile actually appears to be in a believable place (as it seems the mouth could actually be under all its arms like a real octopus) and did I mention... OCTOPUS?!? This just makes me so happy.
If he's a blue ringed octopus though, we'd better hope he only touches her hair...
